「移動・境界」+「情報・メディア」

グローバル化の中で、細かな社会的・文化的違いを理解し、そこから生じ得る軋轢や摩擦を乗り越える知恵と社会的技術がますます必要とされている。本プロジェクトでは、社会科学理論を基礎としつつ、その応用として多文化共生社会の構築を考える。参加学生は、とくに比較社会学、東アジア地域研究、メディア・ジャーナリズム研究、文化研究などを中心に具体的なケースをもとに研究を進めるが、サマープログラムやインターンシップなど多様な学びを通じて、みずからの視点を拡げ、課題解決を目指して自身の「社会力」を鍛えることが求められる。プログラム履修者は、リーディング大学院プログラム「多文化共生・統合人間学プログラム」に所属し、修了必修要件など、同プログラムが要求する活動を行うことが求められる。

授業以外にも、各種セミナーやシンポジウムも開催され、特に海外の諸大学（ベルリン自由大学、延世大学、台湾大学、南洋理工大学など）と共同で実施されるものも少なくない。

プログラム運営は「移動・境界」ユニット（リーダー：園田茂人）と「情報・メディア」ユニット（リーダー：林香里）が中心となるが、実際の教育は、情報学環や東洋文化研究所など、本郷キャンパスで社会科学を研究する教員が担当する。

プロジェクトに特有な授業例

多文化共生・統合人間学演習III（「移動・境界」ユニット）

「香港大学との合同サマープログラム」（担当教員：園田茂人）
Japan in Hong Kongという大きなテーマのもとに、(1) Historical Perspectives of Hong Kong, (2) Japanese Businesses in Hong Kong, and (3) Hong Kong in a Global Contextの3つのトピックを設け、講義とフィールドトリップ（企業見学、日本人商工会訪問など）を組み合わせた活動を行う。PEAKやITASIAの授業としても開講されており、履修希望者は国際本部が行う募集に応募しなければならない。双方の大学から15名の学生が参加し、英語と日本語を混ぜた形で活動が進む。IHSプログラム学生は学部生を指導する役割を果たすことが期待されており、香港大学学生と同じ宿舎に住みこみながらの活動となる。実施時期は8月3日から13日。IHSプログラム生は飛行機代や宿泊費などフルカバーとなる。

多文化共生・統合人間学演習Ⅳ（「情報・メディア」ユニット）

「テレビ番組制作実習　NHKと新番組を開発しよう！」（担当教員：渡邊悟）
NHK現役ディレクターによる制作実習授業。実践的なテレビ番組制作のための知識や技術を学びながら、実習を通して新番組フォーマットの開発を目指す。講義では、海外で使われている教材や情報も紹介し、多文化社会におけるテレビ番組のあり方を問うとともに、学術研究にも有益な情報を提供する。

多文化共生・統合人間学演習Ⅳ（「情報・メディア」ユニット）

「多文化主義の方法論: Methodologies of Multiculturalism」（担当教員：丹羽美之）
内外の文献ならびにメディア・アーカイブを用いながらメディア表象の質的分析方法論を実践的に学ぶ。参加学生はメディアに表象される権力と支配／被支配、資源分配の不平等、アイデンティティ形成及び社会的承認といった問題に対して敏感にアンテナを立てていることが求められる。

Producing Multicultural Communities: Methods, Designs, and Praxes

In today’s globalizing world, we need to understand social and cultural differences for promoting a multicultural society. This process begins with cultivating the necessary knowledge and social skills for communication across racial, gender, national, and ethnic divides. As part of the Integrated Human Sciences Program for Cultural Diversity, this educational project adopts a social scientific approach for thinking about the question of multicultural coexistence. In this project, students conduct research with practical case studies, mostly by utilizing the disciplines of Comparative Sociology, East Asian Regional Studies, Media and Journalism Studies, and Cultural Studies. Students are also encouraged to participate in overseas summer programs, internships, and other cross-cultural opportunities aimed at expanding their horizons.

In addition to the provided courses, there are also various seminars and symposiums jointly held with overseas universities (Free University of Berlin, University of Hong Kong, Nanyang Technological University, and so on).

This project is organized around two units: Human Mobility & Borders (leader: Shigeto Sonoda) and Information & Media (leader: Kaori Hayashi). The educational curriculum is run by leading social science faculties from the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies (III), the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia (IASA), and other departments/institutes at the Hongo Campus.

Seminar in the Integrated Human Sciences for Cultural Diversity III (“Human Mobility & Borders” Unit)

“Japan in Hong Kong: HKU-UTokyo Joint Summer Program 2018 @ Shun Hing College”
This course is for those who want to understand Asia and Japan through the lens of Hong Kong by participating in joint summer program specially tailored to students of University of Tokyo and the University of Hong Kong in August, 2018.
The program will consist of lectures, fieldtrips, and presentations. The topics in the program will include (1) Historical Perspectives of Hong Kong, (2) Japanese Businesses in Hong Kong, and (3) Hong Kong in the Global Context. Participants will listen to the lectures delivered by professors in the University of Hong Kong, and then participate in the fieldwork/fieldtrip. Participants in the program will form groups, each of which will make presentation on its research findings on the last day of the program. Graduate students as well as undergraduate students (capacity: 14 students from each university) will join the program and the former will be expected to function as leaders of each group. IHS program students will get financial support to cover their travel expenses.

Seminar in the Integrated Human Sciences for Cultural Diversity IV (“Information & Media” Unit)

“Practical Seminar for Creating a New TV Program with NHK”
Mr. Satoru Watanabe, currently a Chief Producer at NHK, will conduct a practical class that aims to assist students in learning the knowledge and skills necessary for producing a television program. The instructor will introduce useful information for academic research as well as for practical TV program production. Students will learn the characteristics of the Japanese TV format with a comparative perspective, and will discuss how we can design television in a multicultural society. Classes are conducted in Japanese.

Seminar in the Integrated Human Sciences for Cultural Diversity IV (“Information & Media” Unit)

“Methodologies of Media/Journalism Studies”
In this course, students will conduct inquiries/researches about television culture and issues related to TV journalism by using archives of television programs. Students are expected to both learn practically the methodology of media text analysis, and explore the possibilities and issues of using archives in media studies. Classes are conducted in Japanese.
